FOGEM staged ‘Alikko and Caher’ in London

UNFORGETTABLE characters of Turkish Cypriot theatre, ‘Alikko and Caher’, performed by the Folklore and Youth Center (FOGEM) team, took the stage in North London on Friday, May 19th, and in South London on Saturday, May 20th.

The FOGEM Folklore and Youth team from Northern Cyprus came to London to showcase the play ‘Alikko and Caher’. Esteemed theatre actor and playwright Osman Balıkçıoğlu, well-known within the Turkish community in the United Kingdom, also joined the team on stage, with the sponsorship of Balıkçıoğlu Kabare Theater.

The plays of that era, written by the late Kemal Tunç, a master of Cypriot Turkish theatre, and featuring Kemal Tunç in the role of Alikko and Osman Balıkçıoğlu in the role of Caher, were brought to the stage in London by FOGEM’s dancers and actors.

The presence of Osman Balıkçıoğlu, a Turkish Cypriot theatre artist known for his role as Caher, added significance to the premieres and events, as he currently resides in the United Kingdom.
