YTB Chairman Abdullah Eren was in London

THE Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) chairman Abdullah Eren was in London on a two-day visit to evaluate the voting process and meet with organisations, politicians and community groups regarding YTB work and increasing activities in the UK.

At a press conference held at the Turkish Embassy in London, Eren along with the Turkish Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş meet with members of the Turkish Press.

Touching on the work and projects YTB carry out across the globe since it was established in 2010, working to help citizens living abroad from military service, pensions, cultural support and are heavayily activities in providing educational support for young members of the Turkish diaspora from supporting Turkish language teaching, book programs, holiday camps and more.

One of their impactful programs is the Turkey Scholarships, in 2022 there were some 165,500 applications from 171 countries. The YTB also organized alumni reunion programs in dozens of countries for graduates of Turkish universities.

During his 2 day visit to London, Eren visited the voting centre where registered voters have been casting their ballots since last Saturday in the Turkish Presidential and general elections. Saying “There was a 42 percent voting rate in the previous election. We hope that this election will increase even more. We want our citizens to take advantage of this ballot box opportunity by turning it into a feast of democracy.”

Adding “The voting rate in England has reached 33 per cent in the last 3 days. I hope that this rate will increase even more in the last 3 days.”  Voting closes on Sunday 7 May at 9 pm in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Eren also thank members of the Turkish-speaking communities and the wider community living in the UK for their support and solidarity towards Turkey in the wake of the deadly earthquakes on 6 February which claimed the lives of over 50,000 people.
