FAHRI Zihni, chair British Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations (CTCA UK), announced his resignation from his post.

At the general assembly held in March last year, Fahri Zihni surpassed Ayşe Osman, who received 24 votes, by one vote, and became the 14th chair of CTCA UK which was established in 1983.

In a statement made on his social media account on Sunday, April 2, Zihni announced that he was leaving the Presidency of the Embargoes and the Council.

Stating after many years he had “…I decided it was time to retire from my presidency, along with Secretary Muhsin Mustafa and Treasurer James Clements, who expressed their desire to step down from their current positions. Three weeks ago I had already delegated my duties to my colleagues.”

Going on to add “ Many of you are also aware that I was elected President of the CTCA last year. This was a truly exciting and rewarding role for myself and my new team to understand and contribute to the workings of 20 wonderful Turkish Cypriot Associations. They are run by people who truly dedicate their lives to helping others. There is much to admire. They do a lot for the needy in our community, including older people, and provide education and general support for our children’s educational and cultural needs.

“Unfortunately for health reasons, I too had to leave CTCA in the capable hands of my colleagues on the team. My health problems are certainly not serious, but since I live so far from London, frequent travel has made it a bit difficult for me.”
