IAKM remembered those who lost their lives in earthquakes

THE Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi England (IAKM) remembered those who lost their lives to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria on Thursday 23 February.

Members of the Alevi and Turkish-speaking communities came together at the IKAM headquarters in Wood Green, north London to express their condolences for those who lost their lives, candles were lit for those lost and readings were given.

Making the opening speech of the commemoration night, IAKM Co-Chair İbrahim Has said, “We are experiencing a pain that is very difficult to overcome. Let the earth shake those who lost their lives, let them not hurt them. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. We are going through a difficult process, but we can overcome it with solidarity. Pain is lessened when shared. As in our teaching, we should run to everyone’s needs without separating anyone. We sent our aid to the region right after the earthquake… We really saw what helplessness means. With this earthquake, Kurds and Turks and Alevis and Sunnis were equalized for the first time. Everyone who was buried under the rubble had their share of the state’s irresponsibility,” he said.
