The results of the Census 2021, the census held every ten years in the UK online and by mail, have been released.

In the census, the number of people that are from the Alevi faith in the United Kingdom was determined as 26,000 giving a clear picture of just how many people are practising Alevsim in England and Wales.

For the first time in 2021, the option to write ‘Alevi’ in the religion section The British Alevi Federation, carried out a campaign emphasizing the importance of the issue in order to be visible in the country and to achieve legal rights.

In the census, categories that reveal their ethnic and religious identity were also included for those who wanted to mark on a voluntary basis. In this way, information about the number of ethnic and religious groups living in the United Kingdom was tried to be reached.

The President of the British Alevi Federation, Müslüm Dalkılıç said that the result was 1/10 of the expected number saying  “The ethnic identity and belief part was left optional. This, the length of the procedures applied in the census was also effective in the lack of adequate markings. We are of the opinion that the inadequacies of most of our society in terms of language also affect the marking negatively. Alevism was also included in the other beliefs section. When we take all these into consideration, it is natural for the result to be like this, of course.”

For the first time, Christianity fell below 50% at 46.2% the second largest group was ‘No Religion at 37.2% followed by Muslims at 6.5% some 3.6 million people did not fill out the faith section.
