Protest against LTNs in Haringey took place

HARINGEY residents marched against Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) on Monday, November 14.

Hundreds of people joined the demonstration and walked the street in Wood Green with the call to “take back our streets together”.

Taking part in the protests were members of Day-Mer where hundreds of residents express their against and upset over the LTN scheme Haringey Council has implemented.

The council hopes the LTNs will reduce traffic and boost air quality, but opponents claim they increase congestion, journey times and pollution, particularly along boundary roads on the edges of the schemes. Thousands of people have signed petitions calling for the LTNs to be removed.

Councils across London have faced similar criticism following the introduction of LTNs, aiming to create safes and quiet streets for locates and improve air quality and reduce pollution. However many residents and businesses have complained that the schemes have caused great problems on the surrounding roads to these areas which have seen increase traffic and queuing only re-directing pollution to these roads.
