Tatar met with Turkish Cypriots in London

On Sunday, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)’s President Ersin Tatar met with members of London’s Turkish Cypriot community.

Attending a public meeting held in north London saying “Our nationalism is the emotion that keeps us together and carries us to the future”.  Stating that Turkish Cypriots have continued fighting their cause despite all the difficulties and that the community in the UK has always supported the TRNC.

Tatar said that there is no turning back in Cyprus, where the TRNC was established after the struggle, and now it is on the way to becoming a strong state in the region, highlighting that Londoners have always supported the TRNC by investing economically.

Stating that as the Presidency, they started a project to determine the population of Turkish Cypriots living abroad, Tatar said that being strong comes from unity and urged everyone to be involved in this project.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people have an essential place in the geography where the TRNC is located, Tatar stated that they continue on their way with the support of Turkey.

Adding that the new policy for a two-state Cyprus has ‘become stronger with the call for recognition and that the expectation of a federation that has been going on for years has always been in vain because the majority wants to rule the minority.’

Tatar called on the Turkish Cypriot community in London to invest in the TRNC and increase interest and called on families to attach importance to their children’s education.

President Tatar pointed out the importance of Turkish Cypriot children living in England learning Turkish and emphasized that the development of relations would thus remain strong.

Finally touching on issues such as military service and voting are on the agenda and citizens living abroad can vote in the elections in the TRNC.

Following the public meeting, Tatar met with the Turkish Community Football Federation (TCFF) officials, where he met with the youth team and watched their league match.

On Sunday he accompanied by his Wife Sibel Tatar also visited Hornsey Atatürk School in North London where they met young students attending Turkish school.

Congratulating the organization, Tatar said that he played football while he was in London and that he had memories with Levent Ruso. Tatar stated that he always maintains his friendship and friendship with this community.

Today (Monday 7 November 2022) President Tatar attended the World Travel Market in London every year visitors and businesses are able to learn more about the country at its North Cyprus stand. Tatar spoke with Turkey’s Tourism Minister Nuri Ersoy who is also in London for the three-day event.
