The 11th Alevi Festival with “Peace and Justice” theme begins

In London, the Alevi community celebrated the start of the 11th Alevi Festival with a reception held at the British Alevi Cultural Centre Cemevi in north London.

The 11th British Alevi Festival will be held between 29 May and 5 June with the motto ‘Peace and Justice’.

In the statement made by the festival committee, it was said, “Our festival is a strong voice that announces the Alevi identity, which is still ignored in our country, and the demands of Alevis to the world.”

Representatives of many democratic mass organizations in London and friends of the Alevi community attended the reception on Sunday. The reception started with a short speech by Sibel Özçelik, a member of the British Alevi Cultural Centre Cemevi board of directors.

Over this week a number of events will be taking place, the festival schedule will be as followed:

May 29: Opening Reception / British Alevi Cultural Centre Cemevi

30-31 May /1 June: Panels / British Alevi Cultural Centre Cemevi

2 June: Cem Erkanı / British Alevi Cultural Centre Cemevi

3-4-5 June: Festival Day (Open Air)  / British Alevi Federation Headquarters-Enfield
