More than 300 businesses have so far been nominated for the third annual Kebab Awards, which will be held next year after the event’s successful second instalment in January 2014 (above)

Restaurants and takeaway owners in the country have until 10 December to apply to be nominated for the British Kebab Awards, which will be handed out in the first week of the New Year.

Once the deadline has passed officials at Ceftus, the Centre for Turkey Studies, will whittle down the restaurants by judging them against a set of operating criteria.

They will produce a shortlist of three restaurants for each category, and members of the jury will visit each to judge its quality and taste standards on site.

The jury will hold its final deliberations just hours before the awards ceremony is held at the Waterloo Park Plaza Hotel on 7 January.

Anyone can nominate a restaurant for the awards. To do so, simply visit www.britishkebabawards.co.uk and click on the “Nomination” page.

The jury includes MPs Nadhim Zahawi and Keith Vaz; Baroness Hussein-Ece; London Assembly member Joanne McCarthy; parliamentary candidate Joan Ryan; businessmen Mustafa Topkaya, Rami Ranger, Mark Evans and James Breslaw; Turkish Bank director Ufuk Güngör; financial advisor Altan Kemal and the solicitor Shany Gupta.
