TIKTOK, entered our lives for the first time in 2016, the platform draws attention with its millions of active users and up to a trillion views, despite being a relatively new social media platform. The phenomena, which are popular in the UK as well as in the world, are referred as TikToker’s.
Among the Turkish-speaking community living in the UK, there are also many users who introduced themselves via TikTok and are managing to make thousands of people laugh. One of these users is Şenel Emine Krarup and her mother, Savaş Yesilhat Krarup.
Şenel became popular by sharing her mother and reaching to thousands of followers and views. As Londra Gazete, this week we get to know the 21-year-old Şenel and her mother Savaş more closely. Şenel works in a private nursery but stated that she does not want to continue this for a long time and is trying to establish her own beauty company. Expressing that she is currently continuing a course on microblading, added that her aim is to complete this course and accomplish her dreams.
Telling Londra Gazete “My TikTok journey began in lockdown when I was bored so I just started making silly Tiktoks then after lockdown was over I made a TikTOK of my mum rating my Instagram pictures and it went a little viral. So ever since then, I have continued to make content with my mum due to all the lovely comments about how funny she is. In the beginning, I didn’t think we was going to go viral however me and my mum continued to make videos and make other people laugh which made our following go up. Me and my mum love to see family, friends and the public like and comment because it encourages us to carry on and we also all help each other with funny ideas that we can put in a video.
“My future plan with social media is to carry on making people laugh and to help me and my mums dreams and goals come true. Me and my mum would love to make better quality videos however that requires time and I’m obviously working and my mum has her down days due to her having cancer twice in the past. It honestly does get difficult because her body is run down however she still tries her best and makes videos for her viewers. It also makes her very happy as well she loves making videos she always tells me ‘ hade Şenel yapalım TikTok’. Entertaining the public brings my mum so much joy that literally makes her get out of bed. And thank you everyone we wouldn’t be able to do it without you guys.”
Şenel’s mother, Savaş, born in Limassol, Krarup said she immigrated to England from Northern Cyprus in 1992. A mother of two daughters, stated that because she has beaten cancer twice, she prefers to look at life from a positive perspective and deal with the things that make her feel good and make her happy. “Thanks to my daughter Şenel, we started making funny videos on TikTok. This makes me very happy, I hope that the videos will be watched more and our number of followers will increase in the future. I want to make people laugh and help them have a positive outlook on life. If I can do that, I will be happy.”
