Brits hopeful for up-date on travel to Turkey

BRITS are eagerly awaiting to hear which countries are safe to travel to for a holiday this summer.

Turkey is one of the most popular summer destinations for not just the Turkish speaking coummnity but British holidaymakers as well.

The country was placed on the UK government’s Red list when it introduced the traffic light system, back in May, and its position has not been updated in the last two travel reviews.

But, since then, its new daily cases have plummeted and the UK is now reporting about six times more cases each day.

The country confirmed 5,299 new coronavirus cases and 37 deaths in the last 24 hours for July 6. While on the same day the UK reported 28,773 new cases and 37 deaths.

It’s still not entirely clear whether Turkey will be included in the government’s Amber list after the next travel review, on July 19, many are waiting with fingers crossed for it to be upgraded.

Amber List: Double-jabbed Britons will not need to quarantine on return

Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, has announced that those brits who have been fully vaccinated will not need to carry out a 10 day home quartine when return from an amber list country this afternoon(8 July).

Under 18s  will also not need to quarantine.

It would apply to England, but Covid travel rules have tended to be unified across the UK.

What are the travel restrictions for Turkey?

Direct flights between UK and Turkey are currently operating, but the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to the country based on Covid risks.

All passengers aged six and above must show a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

There is currently no requirement to self-isolate once in Turkey. All arrivals into Turkey, except Turkish citizens or residence permit holders, must complete an online form within 72 hours of travel.

British travellers return currently will need to enter government control hotel quarantine for 11 days upon arrival, costing £1750 per adult.

A PCR test will be needed before departure as well as booking payment for the quarantine, which includes PCR testing on days 2 and 8 of quarantine to be completed online.

The Government is reviewing the traffic-light system every three weeks.

That means the next announcement should come on Thursday 15 July, with any changes coming into effect the following week.
