Vaccine card cannot used as be ‘vaccine passport’ for travel

THOSE who have been vaccinated already will have been given a card or paper confirming the date, vaccine and batch number of their inoculations. However, the NHS appointment card cannot be used to demonstrate vaccine status.

Those looking to travel and will require or want to prove their vaccination status will have to access their digital records.

If you’ve already downloaded the NHS app (not the NHS COVID APP) on your smartphone then you may have spotted additions to the menu, which includes, “Check your Covid-19 record” and “Share your Covid-19 status”.

If you have not you will need to download the app and create an account to access this. If you’re planning to travel soon be aware that the government website warns that setting up a login may take longer than usual at the moment due to high demand and could take 2 weeks to be approved.

For those who do not have a smartphone, computer or other electronic devices, as well as the app and NHS website, there are other ways to prove your vaccine status.

You can call 119 and the team at the service will send out a certificate to the address that you have on your medical record. This can take up to 7 working days.

However, you should only request a certificate if you plan to travel in the next four weeks. You shouldn’t request one if you haven’t been fully vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine by NHS England.

Official government information says that while you can show your Covid-19 vaccination status when travelling abroad, it adds that “There are currently not many countries that accept proof of vaccination. So people will still need to follow other rules when travelling abroad, such as getting a negative pre-departure test.”
