Labour leader attacks the government’s border policy

On Wednesday’s (May 19) Prime Minister question time Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer raises that conflicting messages from ministers on international travel, saying “absolute clarity is needed” from the government.

“The government has lost control of the messaging,” he claims.

Boris Johnson responds by saying the government is trying to move away from legislating for everything and more towards guidance.

“You should not be going to an amber list country on holiday,” the PM says.

Starmer hit back that around 150 flights a day are going to such nations and asks how many people are travelling to and from amber list countries every day.

Going onto say that the government ignored Labour’s calls for a comprehensive hotel quarantine policy and is now in trouble over the Indian variant, which is spreading across the UK.
