An online Sufi Music Concert by Seyed Ali Jaberi and Hamdel Ensemble will take place tomorrow (May 6) at 7.30 pm. This event being live-streamed by the Drama Studio, in partnership with TalkingGigs, and will feature a musically illustrated interview with the ensemble.
The concert will also feature Serap Yilmaz performs a sacred Sufi whirling dance in concert to bring a visual image of devotional transcendence to the stage. Yilmaz has been a Sufi whirling and spiritual dancer since 2015, travelling across the world with performance in places like America and the Bahamas as well as across Europe.
The performance focuses on the poetry and the portrayal of episodes from the life of the 13th-century Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. Hailed as the supreme poet of love, his poems have fired the imagination of millions of readers worldwide.
The Hamdel Ensemble, led by Seyed Ali Jaberi, is an acclaimed contemporary Persian Sufi music ensemble featuring professional musicians and scholars of Persian Sufi traditions who have performed worldwide.
Serap states that the history of whirling as a spiritual dance form is over 1000 years old. It first began from the practice of Shamanism and became a Sufi tradition during 13th century by Rumi. During the whirling dance, Serap feels like she can embrace whole humanity with love, state of ecstasy, leaving the ego behind and letting all earthy ties go. She explained that the nature of spinning around in reparative circles focuses on God and adds that it is divine love which brings us together, keeps us connected and helps us become a better human being.
This event will be recorded live in the Drama Studio and then broadcasted as an exclusive stream on Thursday 6 May 2021 at 7.30 pm (GMT).
