Turkey’s daily covid cases nears 55,000

Turkey’s daily count of coronavirus cases was just under 55,000 on Monday, said the Health Ministry.

A total of 54,562 cases, including 2,671 symptomatic patients, were confirmed across the country, the data showed.

Turkey’s overall case tally is over 3.9 million, the death toll has reached 34,182, with 243 fatalities over the past day.

More than 41.89 million coronavirus tests have been done in Turkey to date, with 301,068 done since Sunday.

The latest figures show that the number of COVID-19 patients in critical condition has risen to 2,891.

Since the countries vaccination campaign began on January 14,  over 18.9 million coronavirus vaccine jabs have been administered.

To fight a new wave of the virus, Turkey recently announced the return of weekend curfews in high-risk areas, as well as other restrictions, in addition to special measures for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which to started this week.

Yesterday Russia announced flight restrictions to Turkey until June 1 due to the high number of cases reported.

Bases on the United Nations Geoscheme data which monitor official figures on coronavirus, yesterday daily figures for new cases put Turkey as the 3rd highest recorded.
