A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal stabbing of a law student in Walthamstow.
Hussain Chaudry was stabbed in the neck as he fought to protect his mother from knifemen trying to steal a designer coat on Wednesday evening.
An 18-year-old has been arrested and remains in custody.
Police were called at approximately 5.20pm on Wednesday, 17 March to reports of a stabbing on Lea Bridge Road.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service, sadly Chaudry was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination gave Chaudhry’s cause of death as hypovolemic shock and a stab wound to the neck.
Two of Chaudry’s relatives – a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s – were found with slash injuries to their hands and were taken to an east London hospital for treatment. The woman remains in hospital but the man has since been discharged.
