TURKEY’s consul general to London, Emirhan Yorulmazlar, led a small-scale tour of England to meet Turkish nationals for Eid.

His visits took him to Manchester, one of the largest Turkish-speaking population centres outside of London.

For the first day of the four-day festival Mr Yorulmazlar was in North London, beginning with prayers at the Aziziye Mosque in Stoke Newington. He then toured the local area to greet local traders and listen to some of the issues they raised.

He was accompanied on the visit by Hackney councillor Mete Çoban; Necmi Akçay, member of the Overseas Turks Consultation board; and businessmen Osman Cinik, Uğur Yılmaz and Nuri Bulgurcu.

On the second day of Eid, the consul-general led a delegation to Manchester, where he and his staff met members of the Turkish-speaking communities there.

The fourth day saw a reception at Turkey’s consulate in London open to all members of the community. It was attended by association representatives, business leaders, students and children and Mr Yorulmazlar made a point of greeting each of them individually.

The consul-general frequently underscored his message that the doors of his consulate were always open and that he did not intend to remain distant from his fellow nationals.
