Mosques fill up for Eid

Londra’da sabahın erken saatlerinden itibaren camileri dolduran vatandaşlarımız, Kurban Bayramı’nı kutladılar.

TURKISH-SPEAKING Muslims in the UK were among those celebrating the past weekend’s Eid festival.

Many migrants from Turkey and Cyprus visited each other in places like Haringey, Dalston and Enfield.

Community mosques, meanwhile, were overwhelmed by the number of visitors for Eid prayers, with some mosques holding a second prayer service in the afternoon to allow more people to attend.

Among those holding services were Süleymaniye Mosque, which has the highest minaret in London and Aziziye Mosque in Stoke Newington. The services were also attended not just by members of the Turkish-speaking communities but large numbers of Asian Muslims as well.

Among those attending prayers at Aziziye Mosque was Turkey’s ambassador to London Abdurrahman Bilgiç, embassy attaché Fatih Ulusoy ve Consul-General Emirhan Yorulmazlar. Long queues formed at the mosque as congregants lined up to greet each other and the visiting officials, who expressed the hope that the festival would lead to further community cohesion.

Many people also attended breakfasts held at mosques.
