Met Office issues Snow alert for London and South East

A yellow warning for snow has been issued for large parts of England, including London, on Saturday.

The Met Office is warning of delays to travel with a “band of heavy snow” expected to move across southeast and eastern England overnight.

A further yellow warning of snow and ice has been issued in a band stretching from the Midlands to the top of Scotland.

The yellow warning for the capital and South East starts at 3am and lasts until 8pm.

According to the Met Office there is a likelihood of “possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers”.

It added: “Some rural communities could become cut off, power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.”

The alert for the rest of England and Scotland warns of “a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel”.
