KTGAB: “We will defeat this pandemic with solidarity”

Turkish Cypriot Youth and Family Association (KTGAB) called on members of the community to comply with the measures.

The statement made by KTGAB they said: “England has faced a difficult time due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has returned to the very beginning with the national lockdown declared. The public has been asked to stay home to save lives. Coronavirus was detected in 60,916 people in the last 24 hours in UK. The number of people who died last due to Covid-19 increased by 830. There has been a significant increase in the number of deaths, especially among the Turkish Cypriot community. A similar situation happened in the last April – May…

While the total number of Turkish Cypriots deaths was 105 on December 8, it is now 147. 42 people died in the last month due to Covid-19, these figures are only the known cases, we are uncertain of the true figures. In the last 24 hours, the news of the death of 6 more community members was shared. Most of those who passed away are over the age of 60 and have health problems. However, according to estimates, over 100 members of our society between the ages of 30 and 60 are being treated in intensive care. The number of deaths from our community members originating from Turkey has also risen to 47. It was 45 on December 8, 47 is now known for sure, but it is definitely higher than this number.

The coronavirus pandemic is really deadly when it finds the elderly and those with underline health conditions. If we want to protect our loved ones, we need to stop getting together with our relatives and friends. Let’s follow the precautions in order not to lose our loved ones and return to our normal life as soon as possible.

The psychological effects of the virus as well as the contagious effect continue to be very persistent. Although the effects of the concepts of ‘quarantine’ and ‘isolation’ on all of us have different meanings, the points we have reached are very similar. As KTCAB, we will try to do our best to be with all our people in these difficult times. We will overcome this Pandemic with solidarity… “
