Coronavirus claims another 19 members of the Turkish Speaking Community

THE number of coronavirus cases and deaths continues to increase rapidly in the UK. According to the information obtained by London Newspaper, 19 more people died in the Turkish Speaking Community in just one week due to the coronavirus.

The highest number of daily cases since the coronavirus outbreak started on Tuesday, December 29, over 50,000 new cases of covid was confirmed and 414 deaths.

In the capital, 19 community members succumbed to the coronavirus in the last week. According to information obtained by the London Gazete, 2 of the 19 originated from Turkey and 17 were Turkish Cypriots who lost their lives.

Speaking to the Londra Gazete, the President of the Cyprus Islamic Society and Imam Hüseyin Haşim El Bakayi stated that since December 24, 16 Turkish Cypriots have succumbed to the coronavirus. El Bakayi made the following statement: “This epidemic continues to spread rapidly in our society, and the new strain detected is quite alarming. This epidemic is not only contagious; it also causes the death of our loved ones. There are 16 Turkish Cypriot deaths that we have been aware of since December 24. Most of our deceased community members are over 70 years old. Our pain is great, let’s obey the rules, let’s not let go of the measures. For health, for all of us. ”

Suleymaniye Mosque, the funeral director Muzaffer Bey, spoke with Londra Gazete saying 3 people had passed away in the last week of them 2 originated from Turkey and 1 was of Turkish Cypriot origins. Mr. Muzaffer called for attention to contact, social distance and isolation calling on the community to be a precaution in the Covid-19 process.

Speaking to Londra Gaztete was the Greek Cypriot newspaper Parikiaki manager said in the last week, 4 more known deaths were announced.

The devastating news that in the space of just one week, 19 more known members of the Turkish Speaking Community in London died after contracting Coronavirus taking the overall total to 172 known members from our community in the UK, of which 126 were Turkish Cypriots and 46 originated from Turkey since the start of the pandemic.
