The UK has recorded 36,804 confirmed new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours- the highest daily increase since the pandemic began.
This compares with 33,364 new infections on Monday and also tops the 35,928 on Sunday, which was a record.
Another 691 deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test have also been recorded, government data shows – the highest for nearly a month.
There have now been a total of 2,110,314 coronavirus cases in the UK and 68,307 related deaths.
But the death rates figure rises to 79,349 when taking into account all fatalities with COVID-19 on the death certificate.
