Turkish Cypriot father and son haircutting team Ossie(Özkan) and Erol Mehmet have always been known by regulars for their excellent trims and warm atmosphere in their Parkway barbers.
Their place is a favoured haunt of Camden Town faces, with the likes of Suggs from Madness, writer Alan Bennett and journalist Sir Trevor McDonald relying on the pair to keep them looking spick and span.
The successful barbershop made it to the list of the UK’s top 10 hairdressers in the British Lifestyle Awards.
Under the London catalogue, ‘Ossie Barber Shop’ is listed as a nominee for London Hair Salon of the Year, with voting open to the public.
Nominated by its customers, is known for hosting many famous names, such as Madness’s Suggs, writer Alan Bennet, journalist Sir Trevor McDonald and former Arsenal players were the first choice Ossie Barbers.
Speaking to Londra Gazete, Ossie said: “We are proud to be deemed worthy of such a meaningful award. I have been in this profession for nearly 50 years and I have been working with my son for the last five years. My son has about 15 years of experience in this field. It is a tremendous feeling to be liked and nominated by our customers, and customer satisfaction has always been our priority. We are in very good company, alongside some really big institutions. We’re thrilled to have made it this far.”
Ossie Mehmet set up his first shop when he was a teenager is celebrating almost 50 years of cutting hair. Mehmet has marked his long service last year with the scissors by refurbishing his shop in Parkway, Camden Town.,
