THE protests that started after the death of an African-America man in police custody on Monday 25 May, since his death a wave of protests has swept across America and in a stand of support across the world as well.
A video shared of George Floyd being held down by 3 police office, 1 of which press and held his knee into his neck for over 8 minutes before he lost consciousness and emergency service took him into custody where he died has been condemned but the Turkish and Kurdish Community Solidarity Center (Day-Mer).
The statement, published under the heading “Racism is the largest virus”, pointed out that racist attacks have increased in England as well. Day-Mer said: “Racism is the biggest virus!
In the U.S., on May 25, the police strangled George Floyd, who had been in his throat for minutes, strangling in front of many people. The killing of Floyd, who pleaded with “I can’t breathe” and did not even show any resistance to the police, caused great reactions in the country.
The US police, who did not hesitate to use and kill guns against blacks, murdered many young black people in the middle of the street and in custody. The fact that the police officers who commit these murders are not punished reveals the extent of racism that exists within the police and US governments. The police officer who killed George Floyd was first protected… If the public did not react, that police officer would still be protected and kept in office by the US government.
People took to the streets in almost all states of the USA. Despite being the country where coronavirus is most effective, the anger of the people has spread to the streets. A state of emergency has been declared in many states of the country where there are major protests against racism and aggression.
Similar attacks and racism are increasing in the country where we live in the UK. To date, none of the police officers who have been murdered and killed more than a thousand people has been sentenced. This shows how racist the UK government and judicial system are.
Racism is also protested in the UK in solidarity with those who demand justice for George Floyd, the last victim of racism. Due to the coronavirus, actions are organized by preserving physical distances. As DAY-MER, we will take our place in these actions.
