Last week Turkey issued a travel ban for flights from the UK, this left thousands of Turkish student in doubt on how they will be able to return home.
On Friday night an announcement was shared by Turkish Foreign Office and the Turkish Embassy in London, calling on students who wish to return to Turkey to contact the embassy by Saturday 5 pm to ensure they are listed down for the return flights home.
According to the news on the BBC Türkçe students travelling to Turkey from Gatwick Airport is located in South London. This morning hundreds of students line the check-in desk at the airport as the first flight back to turkey departed at 10.30 pm local time.
In the e-mail he sent to the students yesterday, the consulate requested that those who want to return respond within two hours.
The students were told to be at the airport by 08:00 at the latest to board the plane. From 07.00 in the morning, long rows occurred in front of THY counters at Gatwick Airport.
Once in Turkey, the students will be quarantined for 2 weeks in student accommodation. Students are expected to be placed in dormitories in Samsun and Sakarya.
