Blue badge abusers fined

Three people in Enfield guilty of using disabled badge without owner being present

Two members of the Turkish-speaking communities are among three people fined nearly £1500 for misusing disabled blue badges.

Orhan Kılınçhan, 55, and 66-year-old İbrahim Doğan were charged alongside June Gregori, 63, with using a disabled blue badge in a car without the badge holder being present.

Gregori was found guilty in her absence and was fined £200. Kilinchan and Dogan pleaded guilty to the offence and were given a 12 month conditional discharge, on the condition that they do not commit another offence.

The three were ordered to pay more than £1450 in costs, fines and victim surcharges.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “Misusing a person’s blue badge is an awful and completely acceptable act.

“Blue badges are designed to make life easier for chronically ill and disabled people, they don’t exist for others to con people and park wherever they like completely free of charge. I advise anyone attempting to commit this type of fraud to think about the consequences of their actions.”
