Give your children the best chance

Registrations open to all ages at new Palmers Green top-up school Bekamaths

An education service in Palmers Green has heralded the start of its new academic year programme.

Bekamaths, which has been offering interim classes since last August, is beginning the 2014-15 term with a range of classes and services.

It will begin with an enhanced two-week “preparation camp” before schools reopen later in the month. Maths, English and reading-writing classes will be offered during the camp, which is designed both for students beginning school for the first time and for children returning from a long summer holiday.

The summer camp runs between 18 and 30 August.

From 1 September, Bekamaths will switch to its main teaching programme, offering classes to all age groups from Year 1 to university level in subjects such as Maths, English, Science and Turkish.

The organisation teaches in groups of five, although home tutoring is also available upon request.

Speaking to Londra Gazete, Bekamaths partner and maths teacher Sanem Şahin said: “As a teacher who has taught in different middle and high schools around London, and as a mother, I must stress that our children need extra help if they are to perform well in SATs, GCSEs and A Levels.

“It is of course not possible for a teacher to pay close attention to each student in a class of 20 pupils. When we consider, given North London’s demographic structure, that these teachers also have to contend with anti-social behaviour problems, we are able to teach subjects in one term that might take a school a whole year to teach.

“Extra classes can only add to a student’s success in later years.”

Ms Şahin added their students since last August had shown significant signs of development and stressed the importance of being tutored from the earliest possible stage.

“Our aim is to raise the success of our children in school and ensure they pass their tests with high achievement. We want to provide them with an opportunity to think analytically, develop their imagination, to use language fluidly and write effective, turning them into well-rounded individuals,” she said.
