Londoner of the year named as Sir David Attenborough

Sir David Attenborough

SIR David Attenborough has been named Londoner of the year at the London Press Club Awards Lunch at Stationer’s Hall.

The broadcaster and natural historian was commended for his work on global environmental issues and his ability to spread the message through the use of streaming platforms such as Netflix.

Accepting his award the 92-year-old spoke about the “transformative” power of television and the “fizz and excitement” of being there from the very beginning.

“The entire population of the world can now see something when it goes out for the next six months or forever. What an exceptional transformation it has been – although, of course, it can be used for rubbish, I hope it’s not,” he said.

“We are bringing an awareness of the natural world to the population of the world that is increasingly urbanised.

“The future of the world is in the hands of people, in the hands of humanity, we have made a mess of it so far,” he said.
