Councillor Ali Bakır was appointed mayor of Enfield in a ceremony at the council’s first meeting on Wednesday night.
Mr Bakır, who is originally from Elbistan in Kahramanmaraş, southern Turkey, will hold this position for the first year of his second term.
He assumes the position from Chaudhury Anwar, who served in the final year of Labour’s first four-year term.
Mr Bakır’s inauguration was attended by Emirhan Yorulmazlar, the Turkish Consul-General in London; Haringey councillors Ali Gül Özbek and Ali Demirci; and members of the new mayor’s family.
