It has been noted that more than a quarter of year six children in Enfield are obese.
In reference to figures accessed by the Local Government Association (LGA), 25.8 percent of year six pupil, which are between 10 to 11 years old in Enfield are overweight.
The statistics for Enfield are higher in contrast to the London average which illustrates that 23.6 percent of children in year six are obese also 5.28 percent are critically obese.
Speaking about the figure, the Enfield Council Leader, Cllr Nesil Çalışkan, commented that the council operates closely with the NHS to assist children to develop healthy lifestyles.
Çalışkan said: “Our schools work hard with parents and pupils on the importance of healthy eating, to adopt healthy eating policies, educate pupils on the importance of healthy eating, food growing and offer high quality nutritious school meals.
“However, we are of the view that the reductions in public health grants should be reversed by the government and further reforms need to be made to tackle childhood obesity more effectively.”
