Croydon council changes food hygiene structure

A new system which has been introduced by Croydon council for its borough now means any; restaurant, take-away delicatessen and shops are able to challenge its Food Hygiene Rating if not happy with the given result.

For a fee businesses will be able to have an immediate follow-up inspection if they are not satisfied with the rating. Previously they would only be allowed to have the rate re-elevated after 3 months in an unannounced inspection.

Croydon Council’s director of safety Andy Opie said: “This new facility is a great chance for any food business that has had a disappointing rating following an inspection by one of our food safety team to have the business reassessed”

This change for Croydon commercial business that believe their rating is not reflective of their standard a chance to  be re-evaluated and have the rating improved, rather than waiting the 3 month period.

This new structure emplaced by Croydon council is a positive change which will help reflect business true ratings if they feel the Food Hygiene Rating is incorrect. This could be picked up by other borough across the capital, given more businesses the ability for a fee to have an immediate inspection.
