STATEMENT from Gareth Bacon AM, Chairman of the Budget & Performance Committee, states on a further £60 million for Met police.
In response to the Mayor’s announcement of an extra £60 million in police funding, Gareth Bacon AM, Chairman of the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee said:
“We asked the Mayor to use his powers to protect the Met’s budget over four months ago.
It was our suggestion that he should use the flexibility of business rates and council tax income to fund the Met – so we welcome today’s announcement.
This money will not solve all of the Met’s financial difficulties – but it helps.
Irrespective of government funding, the Mayor does have financial choices he can make and we are pleased to see him making the choice to keep Londoners safe.”
