THOUSANDS of Alevis came together at the new Cemevi in Wood Green and shared Ashura locusts.
After Mourning of Muharram, Ashura event organized by the British Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi took place this year at the new building in Wood Green. Thousands of people participated in the activity of Ashura in the new cemevi, which gradually came to an end in the making. Ali Dereli Dede started the program with a short talk after the lighting of candles and the dirge he read. “We have come together to share our Ashura locus after the mourning and fasting,” Dereli Dede said. “Ashura is to stand against the oppressors of our time because of the oppression of Umayyad.

BAF President İsrafil Erbil also participated in the London Newspaper live broadcast. Erbil, “Muharram month for us both sorrow and mourning. Therefore, all sadness, fasting, love with Ashura, happiness, hope in the future, turns into peace. In this sense Ashura days are very important, Ashura is also mentioned as a subject in Alevism lessons given in the education system in England. Ashura expresses, symbolizing peace, togetherness and sharing, therefore we hope we can spread this all around the world.”
