Edmonton shooting: Turkish man is shot in the back outside shops

Police were hunting a gunman today after a man was shot dead in the street outside a north London takeaway.

The victim, 54, collapsed outside a parade of shops in Edmonton last night. Witnesses described hearing shots. Police were flagged down and officers and paramedics gave first aid but the man was pronounced dead at 9.45pm.

Witnesses said he was the owner of a cafe in the parade in Bounces Road and had “stormed out” moments before being shot three times in the back. He was found slumped on the floor outside Fes fried chicken shop a dozen yards from his business.

One local business owner said: “I heard three loud shots and the next minute everyone was running. I went to see what was going on and there was a man on the floor trying to breathe. He had been shot.

“It was a row, from what people there said. He walked out of the cafe, turned the corner then bang, bang, bang. He was a nice bloke. He had only been here a couple of months.”

This morning the road was cordoned off and a forensic tent was in place.

The Metropolitan police said officers were trying to trace the victim’s family and the murder squad was investigating.

There have been no arrests.
