In the wake of long negotiations between the Britain Alevi Federation and Britain Justice Ministry, the decision of supplying religious services for Alevi prisoners is set to start at London’s Pentonville Prison.

BAF and the Justice Ministry officials visited the prison, talking with a wide range of Alevi prisoners on 10 July Monday. It was said that the Pentonville staff will arrange a series of time slots to strike further meetings with BAF representatives. BAF President İsrafil Erbil, Deputy President Zeynep Demir and the Women’s Branch President Özlem Şahin shared their observations with the press:

“It wasn’t an easy pursuit to persuade the ministry on making this happen for our Alevi friends as they had forgotten to mark their religions as Alevi upon their registrations. After a long phase of meetings, on our first visit to the prison we have seen a lot of young friends of ours are locked up inside. Whatever the reason is, we will do everything for them to not be ripped away from their culture and beliefs. Our dedes are religious staff will be meeting them to keep them in line and belief.” Said Mr Erbil.

Ms Demir also remarked the fact that world only gets better if the chances are equal to everyone. Further information on the service is expected to be clarified during the following days.
