TURKISH FOOTBALL in London has been shaken by the news a popular community club is to shut down.
Akıncılar, which played in the first division of the Turkish Community Football Federation (TTFF) league, is to close after being unable to overcome its financial difficulties.
The club’s football director Ramadan Rıfat said he took the decision after manager Ali Açık withdrew his team from the field at halfway through a game against Kötürespor.
Mr Açık is understood to have done so in response to walk-out threat from players, who have been in a dispute over pay and conditions.
Akıncılar, the former London Sunday Challenge Cup champions, were losing 4-0 to Kötürespor when the team was withdrawn at half-time.
Mr Rıfat, who used strong language to criticise some of his players, said he was disbanding the club and would be submitting the official paperwork to the TTFF shortly.
