The Turkish Consulate has reminded Turkish nationals living in the UK that they are not eligible to vote in this weekend’s local election.
A statement from the Consul-General’s office said that plans being drawn up by the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) for overseas voting would first be used in this summer’s presidential election.
Overseas voters will also be eligible to vote in next year’s planned general election – but cannot vote in any local election, including the one planned for 30 March.
The Consulate said it planned to open just a single voting station in Britain and that the venue would be announced in due course, but added that postal voting will not be available.
Turkish passport holders living in the UK and wanting to vote this summer must formally declare their address at the consulate and check the Electoral Council’s website at www.ysk.gov.tr to see if they are enrolled on the overseas electoral register.
