The London representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Oya Tuncalı, visited Abdurrahman Bilgiç, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, on the 42nd anniversary of the 20 July Peace Movement to express their gratitude.
With a committee of representative diplomats and Northern Cyprus UK charities, the leader and members of United Kingdom Turkish Cypriot civil society organisations accompanied Tuncali during this visit.
During her visit Tuncalı explained that the Turkish Cypriot community, despite undergoing all sorts of unjust pressure and segregation, has recorded huge progress with the support of Turkey until today. Tuncalı outlined that they are working diligently in order to find a permanent solution based on the political equality of the two societies living on the island under the actual and effective guarantee of the Republic of Turkey.
On this occasion, Tuncalı expressed her endless thankfulness to the Turkish government and public. She said: “I want to send love and respect to the heroic Turkish Armed Forces, our freedom fighters, the Anatolian public and all the wounded veterans. I commemorate our Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”
In response to this, ambassador Bilgiç, whilst celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the 20 July Peace and Freedom Day, gave a speech thanking Tuncalı, who is coming to the end of her term, for her outstanding efforts regarding the effective political representation of Northern Cyprus. He also congratulated her for her efforts regarding the unity and solidarity of the Turkish Cypriot community in the United Kingdom.
