Melek Maksudoğlu presents her book on Crimea’s struggle at Ukrainian Cultural House in London.
Melek Maksudoğlu, Secretary-General of the Emel Crimea Foundation, introduced her book “Crimea is Ours: The Unending Struggle of the Crimean Tatars” at an event organized by the Ukrainian Cultural House in London. Maksudoğlu explained that she wrote the book in English to raise global awareness about Crimea’s history and ongoing occupation. The title “Crimea is Ours” aims to remind the world that the true people of Crimea are the Crimean Tatars, especially in response to the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014.
Maksudoğlu also discussed the historical struggle of the Crimean Tatars, including the 1944 deportation and genocide, as well as the Russian invasion in 2014. She highlighted the Emel Crimea Foundation’s efforts through the “Letter Campaign” and “Always Waiting, My Beloved” initiatives to support political prisoners in Crimea. The event featured a special appearance by the grandchild of Crimean Tatar writer Cengiz Dağcı, with Maksudoğlu signing copies of her book and gifting a photo album to the Ukrainian Cultural Center. She also signed books for the British Library.
