THE 38th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was celebrated in London. A limited number of guests were invited to the reception hosted by the TRNC London Representative Çimen Keskin.
The event attended by Turkey’s Ambassador to London Ümit Yalçın, Consul General Bekir Utku Atahan, members of parliament, representatives of non-governmental organizations, politicians and citizens, was held at the TRNC London Representative Office on Monday, November 15th.
Thanking guests for participating in the Republic Day event, Keskin said, “Long live the TRNC,” stating that they celebrated the 38th anniversary of the TRNC.
Addressing guests Keskin said: “We are celebrating the 38th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We would like to thank the state of the Republic of Turkey, which has always been with us in our struggle for existence. We commemorate our martyrs with mercy and salute our veterans. I would like to thank each and every one of you for being with us in the celebration of our republic, which is the most precious work of our honourable struggle, which means a lot to us. Happy Republic Day! Long live the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”
Taking the floor after Keskin, Turkey’s Ambassador to London Ümit Yalçın said that the Greek Cypriot side’s hostile tactics are at the root of the unresolved Cyprus problem and emphasized that Turkey’s support to the Turkish Cypriots as the motherland and guarantor country will continue. Yalçın said, “The international community must accept that there are two different peoples, two different cultures and two separate states on the Island.”
