Farewell for now

By Ceylan Hassan: My return is unknown so until then, farewell for now.

Two weeks. Two weeks that have been jam-packed of things to do, rushing around, a henna party and a wedding! I guess that’s what it means to be back at home for a ‘holiday’, if that’s what you want to call it I guess.

Being back at home has been a kind of reality check. The reality between two very different countries, yet each of which I can feel at peace in. I’ve been able to jump on the bus and go to the nearest shopping centre. Walk for 5 minutes and be at a friend’s house or walk 15 and be at the hair salon I go to.

In North Cyprus, this isn’t possible. Honestly, if you don’t have a car (which unfortunately I don’t yet) then forget it. The public transport is appalling, they hardly have any if I’m honest. What’s good about the three various transports is that in the summer they have air conditioning and in winter, of course that turns to heating.  But that’s as practical as it gets. Having a car is your guarantee, okay you can walk some places but without a car there isn’t much you can do.

The sun is shining as it as was when I last wrote. London is certainly full of surprises, especially when it comes to weather. It’s been pouring down for the last few days and the temperature has dropped significantly. Autumn is making sure we know it’s arrived and you can’t help but smile at the gorgeous colours of browns, oranges and reds.  It’s been a whirlwind fortnight, I’ve laughed a lot, cried happy and sad tears and appreciated so much more than I could imagine. Being able to see family and friends. Some I hadn’t seen for almost two months and others since before summer, it’s been special. There’s so much to write about, simply being in the comfort of my own home could fill this week’s column.

I want to say thank you to everyone that’s made effort to see me before I go, my family and my real friends, it means so much. London is home, but I must go and start a new chapter for myself with new surroundings and people.

My return is unknown so until then, farewell for now.

Congratulations to one my closest friends on her marriage. Seray and Fuat, congratulations! I wish you both a lifetime together of good health, happiness and love. May your story last forever.
