Maths teacher at Alevi Cultural Centre UK, Ozcan Celik, has lead a new move to open maths’ class doors to parents.

The new policy grew out of the problems migrant families face; education then becomes a secondary or tirchiary. This new approach aims to make education one of the most important areas in migrant’ lives.

“Even though the ‘first generation’ has provided economical comfort for the second generation, we are still behind in education. However, families are now recognising the importance of education and are providing the necessary resources to improve education. As the Alevi Cultural Centre – and Cem-evi – we aim to provide the best we can to help families improve education for their children – and themselves, in fact, “said Ozcan Celik.

Adding: “The success of our childrens’ education depends on the respect and love that moves between all parties – and the personal development of the ‘child’. We believe the most important way to teach our children these important principles go     through    the     parents.”

In this new pilot scheme, parents are not to sit net to their parents; they must sit with other children so class discipline is maintained. Celik has claimed that the students have the capacity to learn the maths they will be taught in five years within three months.

“Dila, my daughter, hardly had any mathematical knowledge. She has been attended [Celik’s] class and now has made huge leaps forward in the area. I am happy about it,” said Dila’s Joyful mother, Canan Garip.
