The issue of the European union has punctuated British politics for a very long-time. Radios, television and much of politics often touches on the subject, creating a large degree of interest among the electorate, so it is thought. However, as we roamed the streets to take the opinion of the every-day citizen, most were unable to, un-willing to construct an important opinion.

Many citizens seemed to be less bothered about the membership in the European Union than they were of the daily things they did. A group of people in the bed said to Londra Gazete that they “did not have time to research into mundane subjects”.

If one was to only follow the atmosphere of the media, it would turn the subject into the central, defining sound-bites of our political activities; however, the reality out on the streets are a little different, in our experience.

Having said that, a few people – some with eccentric knowledge of the Union – provided well -Informed opinions about the referendum and Britain’s potential to leave.

As an Irishman, I’d like to stay

“I really do not know what to say. I am Irish and I believe we should stay and be together with the rest of Europe. you have got to remember that we travel from here to anywhere in Europe without being asked for identity; I think it is great that we now trust each-other”. – Paddy from Haringey.

The European Union is a Burden

“The European-union has been a burden on our country for a long time. I do not like the tories or UKIP, but they are the only ones providing us with a change to leave, and i appreciate that, because I want to leave.” –  Andrew from Enfield

Freedom of travel will be effected

“Leaving the European Union will effect our freedom to travel. I am an English citizen, I do not want to go through the process of getting a visa when travelling to other European countries. Mehmet Maybarskan Barber

The estate agents will lose out

“In the perspective of an estate agent, Britain should not leave the European union because, if it does, it will effect our business negatively; people from the Eastern part of Europe make up most of our business, as they largerly rent out homes in the areas we operate in.” – Osman Civici – Estate Agent

The economy will lose its liveliness

Leaving the European Union will effect the economy of Britain. The reason for this, the participation of Eastern-European countries – Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, ECT. – the economy was effected positivity. The reason for the increase in house prices is also dues to the influx of Eastern Europeans. “ –Tugay Hurman, president of England Cemevi and cultural centre.

What happens in the European Union stays in Europe

“As a British and European citizen, I welcome the infusion of both identities. For we know Europe has been through many wars, the European Union playing an important part in peace in Europe ever since, at least in Western Europe. But, I think the union is a failing project, one that requires swift action; it is better to get the disease early so it does not destroy you then to wait until it does irreparable damage. I say, leave now – or put in measures that may protect us from a potential collapse – or limit damage” – Stuart Munro from Tottenham
