Four Men Arrested for MOT Fraud

FOUR MEN HAVE BEEN arrested and sentenced to 450 hours of community service, £7,040 in fines and a 16 week suspension after they were found guilty of committing MOT fraud at Willesden Magistrates Court, on 24 November 2015.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) carried out the operation where 39 out of 99 vehicles had been issued MOT pass certificates without going through an inspection.

DVSA charged Cohen and Stephen Taylor, David Hilmi and Sam Child, who all pleaded guilty to the offences .

DVSA Head of Investigations, Andrew Rice said:  “The annual MOT is an important aspect of road safety and DVSA will pursue and prosecute those who defraud the system by issuing pass certificates without carrying out the test”

Mr Taylor was sentenced to a 16 week custodial sentence for each offence to run concurrently – suspended for 12 months, 200 hours unpaid work, £1,250 costs, £80 victim surcharge and £180 in court charges.

Mr Hilmi was sentenced to 200 hours unpaid work, £1,250 costs, £80 victim surcharge and a £180 court charge.  Mr Child was sentenced to 50 hours unpaid work, £1,250 towards DVSA costs, £80 victim surcharge, and a £180 court charge and Mr Cohen £1,000 fine, £1,250 towards DVSA costs, £80 victim surcharge and a £180 court charge.
