This year’s celebration features a rich program of activities, with a particular focus on children and youth. Attendees from across the country, including community members from Luton and Exeter participated in the event. Young performers from these regions as well a London based association prepared an array of artistic presentations, including poetry recitals, songs, and traditional dance performances. These showcases reflect both the creative spirit and the cultural heritage passed on to the younger generations.
In addition to the performances, the event will also host a spirited football tournament, reinforcing the day’s emphasis on youth and sports. Teams made up of children and teenagers competed, encouraging sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants.
The 19 May holiday, first celebrated in 1938, commemorates Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s landing in Samsun in 1919, which marked the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence. It has since evolved into a national celebration of youth and athleticism, deeply rooted in the values of progress, education, and unity.
