A recent event in London titled “Technology and Competence Meetings” brought together representatives from leading Turkish defence institutions with students and professionals living abroad. The panel discussion, “Being an Engineer in the Defence Industry,” which drew significant interest.

Moderated by Kürşad Akpınar, Director of Education Development Programs and Technology at the Defence Industry Academy, the panel featured accomplished engineers who had gained experience abroad before taking on key roles within Turkey’s top defence organizations. They shared their career journeys, highlighting the impact of international exposure and the value of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Onur Mustafaoğlu of ASELSAN discussed how his overseas engineering experience strengthened his contributions in the defence sector. Tevfik Can Uzun from TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. (TEI) offered insights into recent advancements in engine technologies. Şükran Şengül Ayalp of HEAŞ spoke about her role in airport management, emphasizing the importance of engineering in aviation infrastructure. Ümit Kanoğlu from STM underscored the role of teamwork across engineering disciplines in the development of defence technologies. Together, their stories illustrated the evolving landscape of Turkey’s defence and aerospace industries.

The panel attracted a broad audience, including Turkish students in the UK, aspiring engineers, and professionals. Attendees gained both technical knowledge and inspiration from real-world career paths, helping them envision their own futures in the field.
