Wigs for Heroes, a charity known for its support of individuals battling cancer in the UK, was honoured on Wednesday, May 8, at a special reception hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace.

Kaz Foncette, a Turkish Cypriot and the founder of Wigs for Heroes , was one of only four organizations invited to exhibit at the palace, giving her a unique opportunity to showcase her charity’s work in one of the UK’s most prestigious venues.

Foncette launched Wigs for Heroes after her own cancer diagnosis, transforming a deeply personal experience into a movement of solidarity and empowerment. The organization provides wigs, style consultations, and psychological support to people undergoing cancer treatment, aiming to make the healing journey more dignified and humane.

Foncette shared her reflections on the event on her social media page saying: “… Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. More recently, His Majesty was too. In a gesture that felt both powerful and personal, the King hosted an evening to honour those working within the cancer community, the real heroes, those of us supporting others through the most vulnerable chapters of their lives.

“As a Turkish Cypriot woman, I grew up hearing, “People like us don’t get invited to things like this.” But as my best man said to me last night , we are breaking those generational patterns.
And we really are.”

Other initiatives present at the reception included Move Dance Feel and Rainbow Boxes. Members of the Royal Family met with campaigners, volunteers, and cancer survivors, drawing attention to the vital social contributions being made in this field.

Adding Not only was I invited… @wigsforheroes was one of just four charities given the honour of hosting a stand inside Buckingham Palace. We got to exhibit our work in the very heart of the royal residence.”

Wigs for Heroes has emerged as a standout community initiative, going beyond physical recovery to rebuild morale, confidence, and hope for those affected by cancer.
