On Thursday afternoon, March 6, 2025, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus(TRNC) Representatives office in London  hosted an event at Leicester Square, London, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The gathering was graced by the presence of the TRNC’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu  and his wife President of  DİMED-TRNC Foreign Ministry Professionals and  Spouses Association Prof. Dr. Oya Ertuğruloğlu, Turkish Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş alongside his wife and members of the Turkish Cypriot community living in London.

The TRNC London Representative Çimen Keskin emphasizing the pivotal role of women in society and the ongoing commitment to gender equality. Highlighted the resilience and contributions of Turkish Cypriot women, “ Throughout history, women have been symbols of progress and determination. From our mothers, grandmothers who kept traditions alive-to the young professionals, academics, politicians, entrepreneurs of today, women have always played pivotal roles in shaping societies…”

Following the Keskin’s address, the Dr. Ertuğruloğlu  took the podium to an overview of Turkish Cypriot women’s rights and roles within Cyprus society and how over a period of time this has processed.  She reflected on the progress made towards achieving equality “…Women’s rights in Cyprus have been strengthened by laws simultaneously with the rights gained in Türkiye, and women’s living spaces have been expanded with the rights provided in the social sphere.” and calling for continued efforts to support and uplift women in all spheres of life.

After the speeches, guests enjoyed a dinner and took the opportunity to socialize, strengthening community ties in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
