Turkish exports rose by 6.7 percent in October compared to 2013, reaching a record £7.9bn for the month.

Turkish exports rose by 6.7 percent in October compared to 2013, reaching a record £7.9bn for the month.

The country also posted increased for the first ten months of the year and the twelve month period to the end of October.

The automotive sector was the leading force behind the exports, valued at £1bn, while chemical products and clothing were second and third respectively at around £900 million each.

Exports from Turkey to the UK saw some of the highest increases. Britain is the second highest recipient of Turkish products, behind Germany and ahead of Iraq, Italy and the United States.

The data showed Turkish electronic products proved most popular in the UK, valued at £810 million, followed by chemical products and steel.

Thousands of firms also export foodstuffs to the UK, which has bought £87.7 million in dried fruits like apricots and dates; £51.7 million in fresh fruit and vegetables; £24.4 million in water and animal products and £21.9 million in nuts and related products.
