Isle of Dogs has topped a prestigious list of the best places to live in London.

The east end ‘island’, the name of which inspired a 2018 Wes Anderson film, was revealed as the capital’s most desirable location in a list published in the Sunday Times.

Up and coming area Leyton also made this year’s top 10 list, according to the newspaper’s Best Places to Live Guide 2019.

Of the Isle of Dogs, the paper writes: “This unheralded corner of Docklands took the prize because of its transport links – a short walk from Canary Wharf and 15 minutes to the City – riverside location and affordable prices for Zone 2.”

It notes that an average property in the area costs more than £100,000 less than the London average – £526,160, compared with £636,215 for the capital as a whole.

This year’s runner up is Battersea described as “an appealing location for affluent young families”. With “softening” house prices and a wealth of new attractions in the child-friendly park, the guide also notes a number of “outstanding” schools, including Prince George’s primary, Thomas’s.

Last year’s winner, Bermondsey, is the only location from The Sunday Times Best Places to Live Guide 2018 list to feature in this year’s top ten. The guide describes the area as having “a warehouse vibe that feels cool and historic”.
